Centaur

5 variants

In the sprawling city of Ravnica, where "open road" seems like a contradiction and "open plain" is sheer nonsense, centaurs nevertheless retain a love of wide spaces and the freedom to travel.

Children of Wind

Centaurs have the upper bodies, down to the waist, of muscular humans, displaying all the human variety of skin tones and features. Their ears are slightly pointed, but their faces are wider and squarer than those of elves. Below the waist, they have the bodies of small horses, with a similar range of coloration - from various shades of chestnut or bay to dappled or even zebra-like striped patterns.

Of The Forest

The average centaur reaches maturity at age 20, living until the age 200. Centaurs live within nomadic tribes, traveling through plains and forests while following the herds of animals they hunt. These creatures are a proud race, believing that respect should be fought for and earned, rather than given. To dishonor yourself is to dishonor your family, and many centaurs would rather die before disgracing their families.

Centaurs have a long lineage within their tribes and families, oral histories spanning back generations of those who came before. Young centaurs learn their family history and the names of honorable ancestors, while those who brought dishonor and shame have their names forgotten from the stories. Within centaur society, being forgotten is the most extreme punishment plausible. To be forgotten means that your name and story will cease to be told, a far worse fate than simply disgracing a family.

One with Nature

Centaurs generally live in tribal hunter-gatherer societies. They have good relations with elves, being as they are both creatures of the forest. They generally despise humans and dwarves but aren't actively hostile to them.
