Pech
Confused as Earth Elementals the small and mighty Pech eek out of living in the dark and dangerous bowels of the earth. They are impartial and respected by their neighbors for their variety of uses with their unique powers. While small they are still able to take on threats such as Cockatrices and Stone Golems.
Small and One With the Earth
They bear a resemblance to Gnomes, but have a skin tone that ranges from dark brown and dull grey, to pale yellow. Their skin also has a toughness comparable to that of granite. Their eyes are large, lack pupils, and reflect light like an owl or cat. Their arms and legs are thin and gangly, ending in abnormally large and powerful hands. Their hair tends to grow either wiry or as thick manes, the color of wet clay. They are believed to be from the Elemental Plane of Earth but they simply evolved to be much like an Elemental.
Miners and Hunters of the Petrifiers
Pech spend much of their lives mining, filling their homes with a variety of gems. They are also known to form dishes and various ornamental goods out of stone or raw metal. They compete with many of the subterranean races for mineral resources but are skilled enough to work out trade agreements. Outside of mining, they are well known for hunting Cockatrices, being immune to their petrifying gaze.
Stoic and Reserved
Pech are unbothered by most things. They like gems, they like mining, and they like eating good food but they rarely go out of their way to have fun or indulge more than what they need for survival. They are mighty in the face of threats that would lay waste to their subterranean neighbors like Cockatrices and Stone Golems so they are respected by races that would normally seek to subjugate or slay them. They work well with a variety of races due to the impartial aid being one of the few that have good relations with Dwarves, Deep Gnomes, and Dao.
