Turtle Folk

Tortles are reptilian-looking humanoids with large shells on their backs that are capable of containing their entire bodies. They stand between 5-6 ft tall and weigh 450 lbs. They have leathery skins that vary between olive-green to blue-green hues. The dorsal portion of their shells is usually darker than their skins, while the ventral portion is lighter, usually with yellowish tones. Tortles rarely wear any clothing, favoring instead belts and harnesses to carry their belongings. They have little tolerance for cold, and usually migrated away from temperate areas when winter approached. Although generally poor swimmers, Tortles were capable of floating on water and could hold their breath for over an hour.

Friendly Wanderers

Most Tortles have the notion of having their houses on their backs, which means that they rarely feel homesick or the need to lay roots in any single place. They are eager to learn new customs and find beauty in the most ordinary things. Tortles have children at the end of their lives and spend about a year teaching their children leaving most Tortles orphans by one year old. Despite spending much of their lives isolated, Tortles like to form strong friendships.

Of the Land and Sea

Tortles have adapted to life along the coast and deep within the desert. They are hardy and can survive, even thrive in harsh environments where others would fail. They wander the land seeing sights that few do as they continue their solitary journey being filled with awe and gratitude for the land and sea around them.
