Blight
3 variants
The Earth a cradle, the Earth a grave, the Earth a home, the Earth a warm embrace. Blights are creatures made of awakened plant matter, gaining a consciousness and will of their own, living on after their Gulthias tree.
What Remains of the Fallen
The Blights appearance varies from type to type, though one commonality amongst all variations is the tree matter they come from. Whether it be the Needle Blight, appearing as a collection of needles of the tree, the Twig Blight, made of a myriad of twigs from the branches, or the Vine Blights, made of twisting vines growing up its trunk with tendrils of roots woven throughout, all Blights take after the tree that once gave them life.
To Lose a Tree
The loss of your Gulthias tree impacted you and the other blights of your tree greatly. For almost all other blights, their tree outlives them, and a tree only dies because the blights were unable to take care of them, keep them healthy and safe. When blights do outlive their tree, it is often seen as a failing on the blights part, whether or not that’s actually true.
Many blights will wither away if they outlive their Gulthias tree, however some do not, and go out to search for a new tree, sapling, or seed to adopt them and become part of a whole again.
The Arboreal Mind
Blights have no true family or government structure, coming very close to being a hivemind. While their Gulthias tree is alive, well, and strong, all Blights know what their role is and are content doing their job to tend to and take care of the tree and the community.
When a tree dies before its blights, their role is no longer needed, and they are lost and have trouble finding their purpose without their tree. After the confusion and dismay fade, all blights who don’t wither away find a new purpose. To find a new tree to raise, whether it be a seed, sapling, or mature tree.
However, other blights are wary of and distant from blights without a tree, and often will not allow them to join a well established tree unless they are desperate for more workers.
