Darakhul

Sometimes the dead can spontaneously come to life. They can come forth as mindless Ghouls or the mighty Darakhul. They are consumed by hunger in many forms as they seek to eat flesh and climb to the top of the world’s hierarchy. Darakhul know that they must work together as no one else will help the undead but themselves.

Previous Life

Every Darakhul had a previous life. It is up to them if they forsake it and work towards world domination, give in to their insatiable hunger, or try and fight their nature and retain as much of their former lives as possible. Any that seek to mingle with the living or those that they knew in life fight an uphill battle against their hunger and the prejudice against the undead.

Ghoulish Undead

All Darakhul have skeletal and haggard features that show their undead nature. They retain features from their old life such as a beard or horns but all flesh is withered and dry. They lose many of the features that defined their heritage race as the Darakhul refer to their old lives, but gain the might of the undead. In order for the Darakhul to move about in non Darakhul society they wear heavy disguises of scarfs, hats, wraps, gloves, and cloaks.

Unending Hunger

Hunger consumes every aspect of their lives. They hunger for power, land, wealth, connections, powerful allies, the surface world, and above all: flesh. As they seek to dominate the world they have two distinctions that they define those around them: ally or food. Darakhul are able to hold back their hunger by using their logic and reason to comfort them in that working with food can allow for more food later.

Sunlight Sensitivity

You have disadvantage on attack rolls and on Perception checks that rely on sight when you, the target of your attack, or whatever you are trying to perceive is in direct Sunlight.

Hunger for Flesh

You must consume 1 pound of raw meat each day or suffer the effects of Starvation. If you go 24 hours without such a meal, you gain one level of Exhaustion. While you have any levels of Exhaustion from this trait, you can’t regain hit points or remove levels of Exhaustion until you spend at least 1 hour consuming 10 pounds of raw meat.

Disgusting Gluttony

You can only eat raw meat. When you eat you lose your modicum of control and the area around you including your clothes becomes covered in blood, gristle, and flecks of meat. You can gorge yourself on a creature that has been dead for less than 24 hours as an action and you regain 1D4 hit points + your level. In order to stop gorging you must succeed a DC 20 - your level WIS saving throw or you continue to eat until the end of your next turn and take no other actions or reactions or move. You can use this feature once per long rest.

Imperfect Undead

You transitioned into undeath, but your transition was imperfect. Though you are a humanoid, you are susceptible to effects that target Undead. You can regain hit points from spells like Cure Wounds, but you can also be affected by game effects that specifically target Undead, such as a Cleric’s Turn Undead feature. Game effects that raise a creature from the dead work on you as normal, but they return you to life as a Darakhul. A True Resurrection or wish spell can restore you to life as a fully living member of your original race.

Powerful Jaw

Your heavy jaw is powerful enough to crush bones to powder. Your bite is a natural melee weapon, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. When you hit it, your bite deals 1D4 Piercing damage.

Undead Resilience

You are infused with the dark energy of undeath, which frees you from some frailties that plague most creatures. You have Resistance to Necrotic damage and Poison damage, and you have advantage on saving throws against being Poisoned. When you finish a short rest, you can reduce your Exhaustion level by 1, provided you have ingested at least 1 pound of raw meat in the last 24 hours.

Undead Vitality

You don’t need to breathe, and you don’t sleep the way most creatures do. Instead, you enter a dormant state that resembles death, remaining semiconscious, for 6 hours a day. While dormant, you have disadvantage on Perception checks. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep.

Walking Among the Living

You are proficient with the Disguise Kit to allow you to sufficiently walk among the living without drawing attention to your Undead nature.
