Grimlock
Deep within the Underark lurks monstrosities that do not know mercy, do not know light. Grimlocks fight every day for survival in one of the deadliest places on the material plane. Eat, fight, survive. Each Grimlock is perfectly evolved to claw their way to success in pure darkness.
Products of Their Environments
Everything about a Grimlock can be explained by their environment. Centuries ago humanoids were lost deep within the Underdark and they managed to survive in the dark, unforgiving hellscape. Each generation changed slightly until the Grimlocks emerged as we know them now. The profound darkness robbed them of their eyes and the unforgiving land made them harsh critics of new ideas and new creatures.
Eyeless Monstrousities
Over time Grimlocks lost their eyes and their skin pigmentation. Skin is stretched over where their eyes should be. They have thick skin that is scaly in places and their black hair and clawlike fingernails grow long. They bear scars all along their skin as they bump into sharp objects with some bearing artistic scars of pride for their accomplishments in battle.
Xenophobia and Culture Shock
Anything in the Underdark and can spell doom. Grimlocks did not choose to be xenophobes; it was a choice of life or death. If one can convince them that they are not an enemy, a Grimlock can become an ally though they may need to keep reminding them that they are not dangerous. In the rare instance that a Grimlock goes to a different race’s settlement or leaves the Underdark, they become curious with a sense of gratification found in finding new things that do not cause them harm.
