Groundling
Groundlings are a mixture of a Dwarf and a Giant Mole. They lurk underground and spring out to attack their targets and then retreat. Groundlings are custom made assassins built for covert missions. While they will never be accused of being the smartest person in the room, Groundlings are surprisingly innovative and capable.
Subterranean Dwellers
Groundlings prefer to live underground and shun bright light. They have sensitive eyes and rely on their whiskers and other senses to navigate as they burrow. They are perfectly suited to their lifestyle and feel uncomfortable when they are in the open. Groundlings have the general short and stocky physique of Dwarves, and could be mistaken for Dwarves from a distance. However, they are covered in wild and coarse fur, and have long snouts, small ears, and narrow eyes that give them a badger-like appearance. They had large fangs and powerful, blade-like claws. They were said to always reek of rotting meat.
Magical Claws and Carnivores
The speed at which Groundlings travel while burrowing is incredible. They accomplish this from magic found in their claws that can move the earth around them. This magic takes a great deal of energy so Groundlings are by necessity voracious eaters that gorge on meat whenever they are not occupied so they can keep burrowing.
Exploited Assassins
Groundlings are the product of experimentation to make an ideal assassin for subterranean attacks. Almost every Groundling started their lives in a small guild where they are assigned missions with strict guidelines so they leave no trace of their actions. Groundlings are almost never the product of a loving family but are usually bred by taskmasters so they have desirable traits. It is rare that a Groundling chooses to escape this life even though the very earth itself could be a haven as they are beaten down from birth.
