Kalashtar

The Kalashtar are a compound race created from the union of humanity and renegade spirits from the plane of dreams – spirits called Quori. Kalashtar are often seen as wise, spiritual people with great compassion for others. But there is an unmistakable alien quality to the Kalashtar, as they are haunted by the conflicts of their otherworldly spirits.

Benign Coexistence

A Kalashtar is a beautiful humanoid that bears a strong resemblance to Elves. They differ only slightly with less pronounced ears and a perpetually peaceful visage. Each Kalashtar has a relationship with a Quori. The Quori were forced to flee their home demiplane of dreams and are mentally bonded with their host. The relationship rarely involves direct interaction between the Quori and their host, though the Quori are naturally inclined to be benevolent and will struggle with their host if they behave contrary to their nature.

In exchange for their coexistence the Quori grant their hosts many powers and rarely if ever, stand in the way of their autonomy. While a Kalashtar will know their Quori’s name and basic mannerisms it is rare that they interact unless the need for interaction is pressing for both parties.

Wise and Enlightened

Exhibiting a deep-rooted empathy and understanding, Kalashtar are known for their compassion and insight into the thoughts and emotions of others. They often display a reserved demeanor, yet their interactions are marked by genuine warmth and sincerity. With an inherent sense of morality, they tend to navigate complex ethical dilemmas with a sense of balance, seeking to uphold principles of justice and harmony. Guided by their innate connection to the Quori, they demonstrate a profound sense of purpose and pursuit of spiritual enlightenment.

At War With the Dreaming Dark

The Quori were forced to flee their home demiplane when the Devourer of Dreams emerged and began corrupting the Quori. Slowly the Devourer of Dreams formed a powerful organization called the Dreaming Dark to perpetuate his schemes. Their goal is to destroy the Kalashtar and enslave or destroy the Quori that still resist. Behind the compassionate gaze of every Kalashtar is a watchful eye for the machinations of the Dreaming Dark and the everpresent threat to all that they hold dear. It is with great dread and somberness that they extinguish the warped existences of fallen Quori that infest those tainted by the Dreaming Dark.

Language

Quori: You don't need to share a language with the creature for it to understand your telepathic utterances, but the creature must be able to understand at least one language. When you're using this trait to speak telepathically to a creature, you can use your action to give that creature the ability to speak telepathically with you for 1 hour or until you end this effect as an action. To use this ability, the creature must be able to see you and must be within this trait's range. You can give this ability to only one creature at a time; giving it to a creature takes it away from another creature who has it.
