Mandrake

4 variants

Wise plant creatures that seek to guide the interactions between society and nature, Mandrakes use their ability to communicate with plants and innate wisdom to nurture those that care to listen. They can vary greatly depending on the time that they are harvested due to the influx of seasonal energy they absorb upon being unearthed.

Seasonal Harvest

Mandrakes change greatly based on the time at which they are harvested. They absorb the latent magic of the season and become vastly different variants as they age. Their characteristics and properties can vary greatly due to the infusion of seasonal magic.

Sentient Rare Herbs

Mandrakes usually stand tall and slim, typically almost seven feet high, with Spring Mandrakes being smaller and Winter Mandrakes being slightly larger, and often hunched over. They have gnarled features and limbs made of twisted wood fibers and a rough face usually topped with a few leaves. Their legs are twisted and nobby and are shaped from the combination of many roots. Their eyes glow with the power of the season in which they were harvested: winter being blue, spring being bright green, summer being brown, and autumn being orange or red.

Verdant Emissaries

Mandrakes are peaceful beings that try to mediate between society and nature. They grow wiser as they grow, becoming ancient beings of great knowledge and power in their twilight years. The older generation carefully cultivates the younger and harvests them at a time that will suit the needs of the forest. Tragically many never get a chance to grow as they are poached at a young age before they can fight back to be used for their variety of alchemical and medicinal uses.

Plant Nature

Even though you are not fully a plant, you still possess many of the same traits as one. As long as you are within direct Sunlight for at least 4 hours a day, you do not need to eat. Additionally, you can breathe through your leaves and extremities, and can absorb water and nutrients through your feet. Even if you aren’t proficient in Stealth, you can add your Proficiency Bonus to Stealth checks that you make to hide in natural environments, such as forests.
