Ophidian (Lesser)

The Ophidians are closer to serpents than civilized people. They scoff at things such as religion, magic, mercy, and ideals. Destruction and torture are the favored passtimes of the Ophidian as they serve their terrible masters and wreak havoc on all that cross them and eat all those that they can fit in their expandable maws.

Cruel Lovers of Snakes

Ophidians take a natural delight in destruction and torture of others. Ophidians are not very intelligent creatures and seem quite content to follow the orders of their more intelligent masters. Magic was of no interest to the Ophidians, nor are they usually skilled enough to master it, though there are some exceptions to this rule. Ophidians are fond of snakes and sometimes keep giant constrictor snakes as companions.

While hunting they are just as likely to lay an ambush as they are to beat their prey to death and swallow them whole. The only things Ophidian warriors seem to agree on is that ranged attacks are for the weak and cowardly and that prey is best eaten head first while it wiggles weakly.

Dangerous Snakemen

Ophidians have snake-like bodies, except that they are neither long nor thin, with short and stubby humanoid appendages. They stand upright, have forked tongues like serpents, and have the ability to change their scale color to match their environment. Their natural color is a spotted green or yellow, with some individuals having some black, brown, or red scales. The greens can range from dark-brownish green to pale blue-green and black scales can also be a faded gray-black.

Lesser Ophidians are unable to transfer the curse of lycanthropy to others due to their diluted bloodline from generations of natural breeding of Ophidians without introducing newly transformed blood into the family. Ironically those that practice “true breeding” usually end up with less powerful children though they are often too dumb to realize this.

Godless and Subservient

Religion as well as magic is a foreign concept to a majority of Ophidians. They are strong on their own but were made by the Sarrukhs to be subservient and even hundreds of years later they remain the same. They seek out and worship strong masters with a preference for Black or Green Dragons. Though the Sarruks made the first wave of Ophidans a second and third wave were created centuries later through worship of a snake deity and a forbidden magic item left by the Netherese. Sages conclude that any variations within Ophidian culture can be traced back to the three different waves intermingling.
