Sahuagin
5 variants
Fish like monstrous humanoids that dwell in lakes, oceans, or underground waterways. They are merciless and will kill anyone at any time without hesitation. As vicious as they are, they are even more superstitious. They are terrified of magic and even hate using it.
Vicious Fishmen
Sahuagin are usually green-skinned; darker on the back and lighter on the belly. Many have dark stripes, bands, or spots, but these tend to fade with age. An adult male Sahuagin stands roughly 6 ft tall and weighs about 200 lbs. Sahuagin are highly fish-like, with webbed feet and hands, gills, and a finned tail. There is additional webbing down the back, at the elbows and, notably, also where human ears would be. Some Sahuagin develop towering physiques, reaching 9 ft tall. The larger beings usually rise to higher positions, as the savage nature of the Sahuagin enabled challenges to the death for higher status.
Pitiless and Superstitious
Sahuagin literally have no concept of mercy. It is utterly foreign to them. Killing a warrior and a baby is the same thing to them as they are not an ally. This applies as much to their enemies as their fellow Sahuagin. Mutant Sahugin and the weak and elderly were culled immediately. The only thing that provokes their fear response is their profound hatred and distrust of magic. Even Priests view their god’s gifts as a necessary evil that still makes them uneasy. It would be unheard of for a Sahuagin to study or pursue magic and if one was found to be doing so a small army would be dispatched to kill the “death omen”.
They are hate fueled people, prone to racism in the extreme. They kill all Elves on sight, but especially hate Sea Elves. They despise Tritons and Lizardfolk but to a lesser degree, only killing them if they think they can get away with it.
Unstable Bloodlines
For unknown reasons Sahuagin’s regularly mutate. There are countless variants of how this can occur but only two are allowed to survive: Malenti and Mutilators. Malenti can be disguised as Sea Elves and used for espionage and Mutilators are valued only as war machines. If there are no Sea Elves to infiltrate a Malenti will be killed regardless and in times of peace Mutilators will be killed as well or it is viewed as inviting bad luck.
