Slyth
Dwelling in the Underdark, the humble Slyth work to preserve the unique flora, fauna, and natural structures found there. They are truly neutral in all that they do and are so universally impartial and fair that even warlike races work with them and even rely on their knowledge of plants and animals. They have a humanoid and amorphous form that they can change between, usually using their amorphous form to escape to places they can’t be bothered.
Cautious in All Things
Slyth have an almost unique capacity for caution with many relying more on forethought than physical force. When feuds and raids between other groups break out into open conflict they refuse to take sides, and instead retreat to faraway niches difficult if not impossible to find without their amorphous bodies. They are renowned for their caution and patience even by other races notable for their own caution such as Deep Gnomes or Ithilids.
Ooze-Like Shapechangers
In their true forms, Slyths are amorphous creatures somewhere between liquids and solids in consistency, resembling puddles of mud, syrup, or oil. They also possess humanoid forms, appearing as bald humans of varying skin tones, with brown tones being the most common. Compared to humans they are slightly taller than the norm among that race, and have softer, more rounded features. Both forms have their pros and cons though their time they can spend in their true forms is limited.
Nature Loving and Truly Neutral
They care deeply for the Underdark’s environment and work to ensure it is not defiled. Slyths are at peace with nature and wise in its ways, perceiving themselves as the custodians and caretakers of the Underdark and consider it their duty to help others in harmoniously engaging with the world. They demonstrate an utmost propensity towards neutral alignments to the point that there are no known members to not be neutral in some way.
They get along well with almost all humanoids and maintain amicable relationships with most races. They are welcome almost anywhere, acting as advisors regarding animal husbandry, agriculture and foraging in peaceful communities and arbiters in conflict-threatened regions. Even violent races such as Orcs find them to be highly agreeable and have no quarrel with them.
