Wight

A Wight is an undead creature given a semblance of life through sheer violence and hatred. They can and must drain the life energy out of victims by touch, turning them into new zombies upon death. Tethered Wights are rare and have more control over their actions and can even work with groups they feel will help them further their goals.

Evil Pact of Hatred

Wights are evil undead creatures brought back to unlife by their vanity, evil deeds, and desires. Upon the end of their mortal lives, their dying spirits reached out to Orcus or another evil deity, receiving undeath in exchange for spending eternity, hating and trying to destroy all living beings. Wights retain their personalities and memories in their undeath. While they possess free will, they are also bound to perform the bidding of the evil powers that brought them back and were subject to dark cravings for the life energy of living victims that was akin to an addiction.

Wights are territorial creatures. They rarely travel away from their burial places, or locations they knew in life unless commanded by their masters, although some exceptions to these rules indeed exist. Scholars theorize that Wights' attachment to their tombs is due to its reminder of their condition, which is more of a source of pride rather than sorrow. Another theory is they dwell in catacombs simply due to the tactical benefits of winding corridors and shadows. Regardless, a Wight will quickly come to learn the layout of their catacombs in exacting detail.

Twisted Reflections

Wights appear as weird and twisted reflections of the forms they had in life. They exist in a state between being alive and being dead, which is likened to being a corpse possessed by an animating spirit. Their mummified flesh covers their twisted skeleton, the hands ending in deadly claws, and their teeth are sharp and jagged like needles. Wights speak in wheezes, gasps, and moans.

A Wight's eyes are calcified and useless for vision—in fact, what little light could penetrate a Wight's eyes was painful to it—however they were still able to perceive life energy. When attacking their prey, Wights' eyes glow like white-hot embers.

Tethered Wight

A Wight that has been Tethered usually by a god they worshiped in life or has been Tethered using strong emotions of someone wishing to redeem them becomes weakened and dependent on the lifeforce of others and loses many abilities archetypal to Wights. They are less prone to violence and are able to work with many races though they are still highly volatile and hateful.
