Hidden Wanderers

A people of otherworldly visages, with luminous features that reveal their celestial heritage. Aasimar are humanlike, with angelic touches. This can include wings; emerald, gold, or silver skin or freckles; and pupiless white, gold, silver, or lapis-lazuli eyes. They have the same build and weight as humans otherwise. While traveling, Aasimar will wear hoods, closed helms, and other gear to conceal their celestial identities.

Despite maturing at the same rate as humans, Aasimar may live up to 160 years. Despite their celestial origin, Aasimar are mortal and possess free will. Most will follow their ordained path, but some may turn away from the world or take extreme measures and become agents of evil.

Celestial Champions

Aasimar are placed in the world to serve as guardians of law and good. They are expected to strike at evil, lead by example, and further the cause of justice. Starting young they will receive visions and guidance from celestial entities via dream. These dreams shape an Aasimar, granting a sense of destiny and desire for righteousness. Each Aasimar has a specific agent of the gods as a guide (typically a Deva, an angel who acts as a messenger to the mortal world). An Aasimar’s guide is wise but not infallible.

Even Aasimar wholly dedicated to good sometimes feel torn between two worlds. Being born of humanity and raised by and with divinity is bound to cause a rift that even they are not immune to. Aasimar can be as ridiculed and misunderstood as Tieflings due to their heritage. It is not as simple as good being good to be around, it comes with troubles as well. Most Aasimar tend to be highly empathetic so any prejudice can deeply hurt them.

Rare Yet Righteous Sovereigns

Aasimars are rare and even siblings could have one be a human and one be an Aasimar. Their celestial heritage can come and go and even vanish for generations. As such they rely heavily on their early celestial connections in place of any social bonds. It would not be uncommon for an Aasimar to go their whole life without meeting another member of their kind.

Due to their celestial influence Aasimars are enveloped in divine magic and teachings leading a majority of them to be Paladins if they are more warlike or Clerics if they are more mindful. Their celestial heritage is a massive part of who they are but they still have the agency to choose their own path resulting in all starting as Protectors or Scourges with most Fallen Aasimars being created at their own hand with very few exceptions.

Protector Aasimar—charged by the powers of good to guard the weak, strike at evil wherever it arises, and stand vigilant against the darkness—will follow a religious and lawful structure. This is an order of those who seek closeness to the gods in order to justly enact their will.

Scourge Aasimar hold onto a powerful desire to destroy evil. Unbeholden to the world around them they actively seek to block it out in order to better contain their power, and unmask only in battle to use that power and desire for its purpose. This is an order that chooses not structure but survival.

Fallen Aasimar are those whose inner light has been replaced by shadow. They turn to evil and rather than following laws or structures they seek their own gain. They follow power and seek to attain it for themselves.
