An Imp that is cheerful and kind, a Troll that is gentle and respectful, Crooked Ones are twisted versions of other creatures. They are born from places of great power and they take the form of natural creatures in the area but are different in appearance and personality.
Born From Lingering Power
The waste places of the world accumulate power from various sources and birth beings that are twisted. For an unknown reason specific types of Crooked Ones are tied to specific regions with specific conditions. The mysterious process of their birth produces an otherwise naturally occurring creature native to the area to a Crooked One. They are literally birthed from the land and usually form a small, and tight knit community around their birthing holes.
Varied Forms
They take forms that are both familiar and alien. Each Crooked One is defined by the manner of their birth but are mostly similar to existing monsters and races. For instance an Ashborn is like an Imp but has a gentle demenoir, wears cheerful clothes, and delights in song and dance and has softer features. Apart from their birth, Crooked Ones share little else.
Divergent Beings
Crooked Ones are named for their direct opposition to their natural counterparts. Evil is good, and good is evil when it comes to the Crooked Ones. For an unknown reason the manner in which they spawn twists them to become fundamentally different. Like a slight breeze and drastically affect the trajectory of an arrow so does the manner of their birth change their appearance and personality from the norm.
