Reaver

Deep in the depths of lakes and oceans within Dread Domains lurk swarms of hungry maws. Reavers hunt prey selectively to cause the most amount of pain and despair to the area around them. They are vicious and territorial as they jealously defend their hunting grounds.

Frightful Denizens of the Deep

Reavers look like tall humanoid creatures that stand on average 7 ft tall and are covered with small razor-sharp scales. They have large fish-like eyes and large webbed hands and feet, with the fingers and toes ending in short but deadly sharp claws that could rip through flesh and bone with ease. Their mouths are wide and fish-like and filled with rows of needle-like teeth. They speak with a lisping, hissing tongue in a language that was very difficult for other races to match. Some of the sounds they use to communicate are ultrasonic, so most can not even hear them.

Vile Hunters

As a race, the Reavers are an evil and dark people, who lurk near the shore hoping to get close to swimmers, fishermen, or small boats they would then ambush, dragging their victims down into the depths. They are carnivorous to a fault, eating only the raw flesh of land-dwelling creatures or sea mammals. Likewise intelligent prey is seen as far better meat than that of simple animal life. Thus a Reaver would often pass up other targets to strike at a wandering band of humans or demihumans. After feasting on the bodies of their victims, they would leave behind a grisly trophy of blood and death, marking their successful hunt and warning off those who might think of hunting them down for vengeance.

Territorial Terrors

Reavers spawn from Dread Domains in the Shadowfell that are full of water and ruled by a Dreadlord that is particularly violent and savage. Unlike others in Dread Domains they can slip in and out of them through special passageways that only Reavers can see and use. They will stake out territories on the material plane to hunt and if any other aquatic creature tries to hunt in their territory they are met with ferocious attacks that do not end until one of them is dead. One may leave their territory if they develop a taste for flesh that cannot be sated by those that enter their hunting grounds and they seek out more and more prey as they become crazed.
