Tamer

The Tamer Conclave holds secret arts to enable their members to tame beasts far above the capacity of even extraordinary people. Tamer Rangers fight alongside a tight knit group of Beasts. They are jealous defenders of animals, though a few may abuse their powers and harm their partners. These renegades are often hunted by their own Conclave members.

Taming:

Taming can only be attempted on Beasts. Gargantuan Beasts are untameable. You are unable to tame a Beast if you do not have proficiency with Animal Handling. Your WIS modifier determines the size of the creature you can tame.

-4 to 0, you cannot tame a Beast

1, Tiny

2, Small

3, Medium

4, Large

5, Huge

If you have dealt damage to the Beast or the Beast has the Frightened condition the check fails automatically. You roll with advantage if the Beast has the Charmed condition. The Animal Handling check’s DC equal to the Beast’s CR +12 or +6 if at half health. You must succeed a majority of checks equal to 1/2 the Beast’s CR rounded up. If you fail three checks in a row or checks equal to 1/2 the Beast’s CR rounded up the Beast is untamable to you until its death. A Player may only have a single Beast tamed at a time.

Feeding and Combat

The tamed Beast will consume the correlating ration(s) per size per day.

1/2 for tiny

1 for small

2 for medium

4 for large

8 for huge

A Beast acts on your initiative and can take the Dash, Disengage, or Dodge actions on its turn or an attack or other action if you use an attack to command it.

If you are Incapacitated, the Beast defends you to the best of its ability.

Resentment Points

If you fail to feed your Tamed Beast or it ends a battle with less than half its hit points it gains a Resentment Point. After three Resentment Points your Beast flees to the best of its ability to return to the wild. It will not attack the tamer unless cornered but will attack others and is untameable.

You can remove a resentment point by succeeding a DC 16 Animal Handling check over the course of a long rest. If you fail the check by 5 or more they gain a Resentment Point and they gain two Resentment Points if you fail by 10 or more.

Beast Pariah (Optional Ruling)

If you fail to tame a Beast (Abandoning a tame does not count) or have a Beast leave you by accumulating three Resentment Points, you permanently gain a level of Beast Pariah Aura. You have a -2 penalty to Animal Handling checks for each level of Aura you have.

If a tamed Beast dies under your control you gain two Resentment Points. If a Beast has a CR equal to or less than your Resentment Points it is untamable to you.
